USWNT Visit SITS & GVP

US Soccer Women's National Team and Soccer in the Streets

>There are moments in the life of a nonprofit organization that are truly unique. Earlier this month, in the days leading up to the She Believes Cup, the full roster of the US Women's National Soccer Team came to Decatur to visit an exceptional school. But we're getting a tick ahead of ourselves...

>In the fall of 2022, Soccer in the Streets built a partnership with Global Village Project. If you're unfamiliar with the school, its motto is "reactivating the education of refugee girls." GVP helps these young women work through various barriers to educational success.

>On a recent phone call with team members from US Soccer, Chelsea Wood, our Director of Operations, mentioned the school and the excellent work our coaches have been doing there. The US Soccer team got very excited, and soon after a plan was hatched to visit the school during the She Believes period.

>It was beyond our wildest dreams when the US Soccer team let us know that not only would some players be visiting, but the WHOLE team would be stopping by!! The girls had some good quality time with the players; one team member in particular, Naomi Girma, spoke to the girls about her experiences immigrating from Ethiopia.

>The USWNT players engaged in a fun four-way soccer game with the girls and donated some much-needed personal soccer equipment to the students.
